The fortifications of Moyta were rebuilt many times over the course of the centuries
, the last time probably on the eve of the siege by Dionysius of Syracuse in 397 BC. On this occasion the walls were reinforced with square towers of over 10 m on a side, set at regular intervals. The curtain of walls was pierced by two monumental entran
ces. The bases of the walls were built out of blocks of large size and laid without mortar, whereas air-dried bricks were used for the upper parts and curved battlements ran along the top.\par
